Agriculture and Environment

Due to highly expansion of socio-economic development in Lao PDR, the needs for food security and environmental protection are emphasized by the Lao Government as well as provincial authorities in the central part of Laos. The food security is derived from various terms of plant and animal products, whereas the environmental protection is centered on properties of soil, water, air, impact of climate change, detrimental cataclysm, etc.

In order to meet the ultimate goal of food security in terms of plant and animal products, however, human’s capacity building is needed. Basically, students’ knowledge and experiences on appropriate technology transfers are implanted in university before going on their jobs. Therefore, the curriculum of undergraduate in agriculture and environment must be correspondingly considered to socio-economic development in the central part of the country. Moreover, Savannakhet Province has the Second Mekong Friendship Bridge (Savannakhet, Laos – Mukdahan, Thailand) linking with the national road number 9 called “The economics of east-west corridor”. As a result of this event, that to design an appropriate curriculum of undergraduate in agriculture and environment is very essential to convince travelers interesting evermore in Savannakhet Province.
