n 2005, the Sixth General Congress of Savannakhet Province (28-30 July, 2005) resolved a strategic program on socio-economic development of the province which set forth, among other, to set up a new university in the central part of the country. And on 30th December, 2008, the Minister of Education and Sports issued a mandate for creating a committee called “Savannakhet University Creating Committeee”. Among the total faculty and staff members, there are 385 persons and 179 females, among which 7 persons and no female for PhD, 40 persons and 11 females for MSc, 257 persons and 124 females for BSc, 20 persons and 11 females for Higher Diploma, 7 persons and 6 females for Middle Certificate, 3 persons and 2 females for Primary Certificate, 51 persons and 25 females for Internship staff members. While there are 3634 persons and 1970 females among students.
Savannakhet University is one of five public University in Laos P.D.R. It was inauguration and established on 27th March 2009, the founding ceremony was led by the Prime Minister of Lao P.D.R.
